Meet the Team

General Pediatrician
Dr Ariane L'Ecuyer, MD, FRCPC
Dr. L’Ecuyer is a dedicated consulting pediatrician passionate about providing equitable and accessible care to all children. Originally from Montreal, she completed her medical training at the University of Montreal and her pediatric residency at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. Now well-established on Vancouver Island, she cares for families at Oceanside Pediatrics and Victoria General Hospital. She is also a Clinical Instructor with UBC’s Department of Pediatrics.

Your Appointment
Dr L'Ecuyer is available for consultation by referral only.
Please ask your family doctor, nurse practitioner, obstetrician, or midwife to send us a referral.
What to Expect After a Referral
If your child has been referred to our clinic, here’s what you can expect next:
1. Referral Review
All referrals are reviewed based on urgency, the reason for referral, and appointment availability.
Wait times can vary depending on the type of concern and how many referrals we have at the moment:
-
2 to 4 weeks for urgent medical concerns and newborn follow-ups
-
2 to 4 months for non-urgent medical concerns
-
6 to 12 months for developmental, behavioral, and mental health concerns
Please note: We are unable to provide exact wait times or your child’s place on the waitlist. We kindly ask that you do not call the office to check your position, as we are focused on reviewing referrals as efficiently and fairly as possible.
2. Appointment Scheduling
As your child’s appointment date approaches, a member of our team will contact you by phone or email to schedule the visit.
3. Intake Forms
Once your appointment is booked, you’ll receive an email with a link to our secure messaging platform. There, you’ll be asked to complete the necessary intake and consent forms prior to the visit.
4. Appointment Reminders
You’ll receive email reminders one week and 72 hours before both your first appointment and any follow-up visits.
5. Stay in Touch with Your Primary Care Provider
If your child’s condition changes before the first appointment or between visits, please contact your family doctor or nurse practitioner. They can offer support and update us if the referral or follow-up timeline needs to change.
Cancellation Policy
Your appointment is reserved specifically for your child. Please give us at least two business days' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, so we can offer the appointment to another child.
Please note that a cancellation fee will be charged for missed appointments or for cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice. These fees will need to be paid before the appointment is rebooked.
In cases of two missed appointments, a new referral will be required to continue care.
We greatly appreciate your consideration and respect for other families waiting to be seen.

Before Your Appointment
Helpful tips to prepare you for your first visit
You can talk to your child about their last doctor’s visit, read a book about going to the doctor, or play “doctor” with their dolls or stuffed animals. These simple activities can help your child feel more comfortable and confident about the visit.

Keep your child fueled
Make sure your child has had something to eat, or bring along a few snacks, as initial visits can be long.

Bring a familiar item
You can let your child bring a familiar item, such as a stuffed animal, toy or blanket, as it can helpg them feel safe in a new space.

Plan your questions ahead
Writing down your questions before the appointment can be very helpful and it can ensure you don’t forget anything important.

Virtual Visits for a Gentle Start
If you child gets quite overwhelmed in a new environnement, aks about a virtual visit. Let us know when booking—we’ll work with you to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

One child at the time
If possible, try not to bring siblings to the appointment. This allows you to focus on your child and have a more relaxed conversation with the doctor.

Need a Private Moment?
If there is something you would prefer to discuss without your child present, just let your doctor know prior to the appointment and we will be happy to make time for a private conversation.
